The North Queensland Chamber Orchestra (NQCO)

The NQCO is an orchestra of invited string players from Cairns and the surrounding regions. They have performed 2 concerts a year since 2013. The NQCO focuses on the performance of great music written for string orchestra. Past programs have included a diverse range of music from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries –from staples such as the Grieg Holberg Suite, or Holst St Paul’s Suite to less well known but beautiful works such as the Kalinnikov Serenade for Strings.

A soloist is featured in every concert and recent soloists have included violinist Ben Spiers (Melbourne), local professional flautist – Jane Linstead and CQU Music lecturer and saxophonist Rob Woodward.

The North Queensland Chamber Players (NQCP)

This smaller sub-group of the NQCO also present concerts twice a year. The NQCP concert series is called the “Classical Sunset” concerts. These concerts frequently feature guest wind players or vocalists who combine with the String quartet to perform chamber music.
