Marian ArnoldOur Patron – Marian Arnold

Marian Arnold is a broadcaster and musician. A graduate of Sydney University (BA Dip Ed AMusA), she began her career as a high school music teacher. In 1981 Marian joined ABC Classic FM, after a series of exhaustive auditions and tests of musical knowledge. She was employed as a Producer/Presenter, and was so happy in this rôle that she carried it out highly successfully for 34 years, becoming by 2015, when she retired, Australia's longest serving music presenter on the ABC's national music network.

Now Marian spends her time with her violin and viola. She is a passionate supporter of live music making. She plays with the North Sydney Symphony Orchestra and regularly both compères and plays in their concerts. Participating in chamber music is also very important to her. Marian is often asked to present concerts, which she very much enjoys doing, and she is also Patron of the Canowindra Baroque Festival.

“I attended the Cairns Winter Music School for the first time in 2016. I had the most wonderful time, with so many like-minded players to meet, and an interesting and challenging concert program to prepare. It was a great pleasure to work with conductor Mark Eager, who is full of apparently boundless energy and enthusiasm; and the final concert, given to a full house, was sensationally exciting, and very warmly received. For Australians, an event like this for adult musicians is unique in our country, and I will most certainly be attending again in 2018. I look forward to renewing my 2017 acquaintances, making new friendships with players from around Australia, and engaging again in four days of stimulating and challenging music-making. I do hope to meet you at Cairns Winter Music School 2018!”
